Nonsmooth Problems with Applications in Mechanics
May 19 - 23, 2025, Olomouc, Czech republic
Welcome to NOPAM 2025
The international conference Nonsmooth Problems with Applications in Mechanics 2025 (NOPAM 2025) will be held from May 19th to May 23th, 2025 in Olomouc, Czech republic, organized by the Department of Mathematical Analysis and Applications of Mathematics, Faculty of Science, Palacký University Olomouc. This is the second conference of the same basic name, directly following the NOPAM 2023 conference, which took place in 2023 in Bedlew, Poland.
The event is also a continuation of the successful Emerging Trends in Applied Mathematics and Mechanics conference series, building on the previous conferences ETAMM2016 conference which held in 2016 in Perpignan, France, ETAMM2018 conference which held in 2018 in Krakow, Poland and ETAMM2024 conference which held in 2024 in A Coruña, Spain.
Aims and scope of conference
Nonsmooth problems play a significant role in various aspects of industry and daily life. They appear in contexts such as contact mechanics in the automotive sector, metal forming, and manufacturing processes involving electrical circuits and innovative materials like piezoelectrics. Tackling these problems demands advanced methods for modeling, analysis, control, and numerical solutions, as they often lead to intricate mathematical challenges. As a result, this area has inspired a rich and extensive body of research. This conference aims to explore the latest developments in the mathematical understanding of nonsmooth problems and their wide-ranging applications.
The topics of the conference include (but are not limited to)
- fixed point problems
- nonlinear operators
- variational and hemivariational inequalities
- abstract inclusions and sweeping processes
- nonlinear boundary value problems
- optimization problems
- optimal control
- numerical methods
- applications in solid, fluid and contact mechanics
- real word applications in industry, transportation, mechanics of materials
This conference will delve into a wide array of topics related to nonsmooth problems, from exploring new classes defined by fixed points, inclusions, and variational or hemivariational inequalities to investigating their existence and uniqueness. Discussions will also address well-posedness, emphasizing how solutions depend on input data and how different nonsmooth problems interconnect. A special focus will be placed on the challenges of optimal control, an area where progress has been limited due to the complexity and irregularity of solutions. Additionally, the conference will highlight advancements in numerical methods, including error analysis and convergence for discrete models, offering new insights into these challenging mathematical problems.
